Proposal

I'm interested in how the narrator of Hong Kingston's fan fiction-like story does not inspire heroism and bravery (at least in my opinion) like you'd expect, instead she seems more like a pawn in the game, a tool for others to manipulate. So my question is: how did elements of Hong Kingston's style make my reading of her narrator the way it was - how did they diminish her heroism? One way to consider this is that the format of the story - how we watch the girl grow up, the integration of magic, and how the girl's relationships with others are described all are contributors.
